I am certainly "old" enough to have seen evidence of support for Brent's comments. This was especially true for the Barefoot Nautique...something about that cult following in particular. The sport never recovered. It is also true that wake slalom can be more antimidating behind a boat that you don't know - I practice behind an outboard not used in several years. But, I say big deal! As was said by another footer (I think Dave Miller), I also go to the events for fun and a self-test. But I have a separate theory, not related to croud appeal, nor related to boat manufacturer as to the drop in numbers: We require water time for "productive" practice when, and where, no one else is boating. How many outlets are available to footer wannabee's like this? The only reason I have survived in this sport is due to a saint-of-a-neighbor, who is willing to meet me on the dock at 6 am on work days. After that, NO FOOTING due to waterway traffic in the PM. The lack of undisturbed water, I believe, is behind declining numbers in footing, more than any other. Wake boarders can hit the water, busy traffic or not, and have a fun and productive session. Me? I'm so in love with our sport, I won't stop until my health requires I do so, or my "saint-next-door" moves away!
