Most serious tournament barefooters want to train behind a boat similar to what they will see in a tournament. However, when a boat is dropped from production or certification, the skier has the following choices: a) buy a new one (at significant cost), b)ski at tournaments feeling a disadvantage from unfamiliar boats, or c)drop out of the organized sport. I am not sure what the answer is, but you have definitely hit upon an issue here. I know for a fact that there are many very capable barefoot boats out there that are not currently "tournament certified". If it were not for the wake slalom event, the boats would probably not be quite such an issue and we could use these other boats.
